Becoming

This week, I am finishing prep for my favorite event of the year - speaking at The Kindness Conference.

Naturally, I've found myself reflecting on one of the ideas that my partner and I will be sharing:

What kind of person are you practicing becoming?

Because who we become isn't determined by one big decision.

It's shaped by thousands of small moments.

The way we breathe when things feel uncomfortable. The way we respond when our mind wants to quit.

The way we show up, even when we don't feel like it.

Most of us spend a lot of time thinking about where we want to be -

Less time thinking about whether today's choices are actually taking us there.

It can easy to imagine a future version of ourselves:

  • The one that slows down more.

  • The one that takes the risk to start their own business.

  • The one who writes the book.

  • The one that travels more.

  • The one that has time for a relationship.

  • The one that makes time for what matters.

But that future version isn't created all at once.

It's created in the ordinary moments.

The choices no one applauds.

The routines no one sees.

The small decisions we repeat over and over again.

Action has a remarkable way of quieting doubt.

Not because fear disappears.

Because experience begins to replace imagination.

Small choices, repeated daily, create extraordinary lives.

Who am I becoming?

  • Someone who says yes to an unforgettable week in Sicily with dear friends because relationships are always worth investing in (see pic from the latest retreat)

  • Someone who finally follows through on launching a podcast—not because it's perfect, but because the message matters more than the production.

  • Someone who is fully invested in experiencing Summer with my kids...camping, hot springs, parades, popsicles, bike rides, and more.

  • Someone who puts perfection aside, trusts my preparation, and walks onto the stage next week believing that showing up authentically is far more powerful than getting every word exactly right.

  • Someone who continues to dream bigger about what's possible because this life is truly awe-inspiring.

The life you hope for isn't waiting somewhere in the future.

It's quietly being created by the choices you make today.

The way you speak to yourself.

The way you care for your body.

The way you love.

The way you rest.

The way you begin again.

Because we get one life. One opportunity to experience it fully.

To be curious.

To be daring.

To make mistakes.

To begin before we're certain.

Trust that who you want to become doesn't require perfection.

It simply requires your participation.
